Terms of service

Short version: play fair, don't fake results, and remember that the bar is a real place with real people in it. The rest of this page is the same idea written carefully.

1The agreement

These terms are between you and BarSport. Downloading the app, creating an account, or entering a match means you accept them. If you do not, do not use the service.

You must be old enough to enter the venues you play in. Where a bar has a minimum age, that age applies to BarSport use inside it.

2Your account

  • One person, one account. Accounts are personal and non-transferable. You are responsible for what happens under yours.
  • Your handle. Pick anything that is not impersonation, harassment, or a slur. We will rename an account that breaks that, and repeat offences end it.
  • Closing it. You can delete your account at any time from settings, with no notice period and no conditions.

3Real-world conduct

BarSport is a queueing and scoring utility. We do not own, operate, staff or supervise the venues where matches happen, and we are not present when they are played.

  • The venue's rules apply. House rules, age limits, dress codes and closing time are the venue's business, not ours, and they override anything in the app.
  • You are responsible for your own behaviour. Disputes, arguments, injuries, and damage to bar property — snapped cues, torn cloth, cracked flights — are between you, the other player, and the venue.
  • Competitive, not hostile. Harassment of other players, in the app or in the room, ends accounts.

4Results and records

  • Confirmed results are permanent. Once both players confirm a score it becomes part of the public record. There is no delete button for a loss.
  • Your standings are public. Handle, rating, faction and match history are visible on this website and inside the app. Playing means accepting that.
  • Corrections. Genuine errors are fixed by a venue admin, and the correction is recorded as a correction. We do not quietly rewrite history.
  • Availability. We aim to keep the ledger accurate and available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. A dropped connection in a basement pub is not something we can indemnify you against.

5Venues

  • Registration is free. Listing a venue and its tables on BarSport costs nothing and requires no hardware.
  • Admin authority. A verified venue admin controls their own tables and queues, and can rule on disputed matches played there. That authority does not extend beyond their venue.
  • Delisting. A venue can ask to be removed at any time. Match history already recorded there stays in the record, attached to the players who made it.

6Elite subscription

  • What it is. An optional paid tier. It adds cosmetics and deeper personal statistics. It does not buy rating, control points, faction XP, queue priority, or any competitive advantage — and it never will.
  • Billing. Auto-renewing monthly, charged to your Apple or Google account on confirmation of purchase and at each renewal. The current price is shown in the store before you confirm.
  • Cancelling. Cancel any time through your device's subscription settings. Access continues to the end of the paid period. Partial periods are not refunded except where consumer law requires it.
  • Statutory rights. If you are in the EU or UK, your statutory withdrawal and refund rights apply regardless of anything above.

7Enforcement

Rating manipulation is the one thing that would make the whole service pointless, so it carries the heaviest penalty we have.

  • Permanent removal. Filing matches that were not played, feeding wins between accounts, arranging losses, or running a second account to farm rating ends every account involved.
  • Results are unwound. Manufactured results are reversed, and the ratings they moved are corrected for everyone affected.
  • Handshake abuse. Using the dispute freeze to stall an opponent is treated as manipulation.
  • Appeals. Enforcement decisions can be appealed once, in writing, to support@barsport.app.

Losing on purpose to a friend for a laugh is still manipulation. It moves real numbers for real people further down the ladder.

8Liability

The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, BarSport is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for lost queue positions, for missed notifications, or for anything that happens between people in a physical venue.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

9Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes are announced in the app before they take effect, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continuing to play after a change means you accept it.
